"Young lives are at risk"
Decision on Drug De-addiction Policy timely: Puneet Singh Jamwal
JAMMU, Dec 23: Expressing his concern over rising drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir state, Civil Society for Development of J&K (CSD J&K) president Puneet Singh Jamwal today said that the decision once implemented will save many precious lives which are at risk of being eliminated due to drug abuse. He said that the decision is not only timely but also go a long way in eradicating this menace from our society.
Puneet Singh Jamwal said the decision of State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik in involving 14 departments to work in unison is also appreciable but this needs constant monitoring as lack of interest by any one single department will leave scope for those into drug abuse to find space for their illegal and antisocial activities.
He said major thrust should be laid on checking supply of drugs from other states and from across the border besides those into supplying must be nailed. Though the decision to enable all district hospitals with full-fledged treatment facility is good yet the need of such units should be minimum by nipping the evil in the bud.
Puneet Singh Jamwal said a lot many social organisations have also launched their tirade against drug abuse who must also be roped in and their services utilised. There's more need of having several rounds of counselling sessions in schools and colleges besides involving workers into transport and other such vulnerable areas.
Puneet Singh Jamwal said that over a period of time many young lives have been lost in our state due to drug abuse. He advised parents to give as much time as they can to their children and invoice them in socialising so that they get proper attention and stay away from bad company and also not fall into trap of drug abusers.
