In its consistent endeavour to promote meaningful theatre, Natrang presented Saadat Hasan Manto’s play ‘Maachis Ki Dibiya’ at Natrang Studio Theatre in its Sunday Theatre Series. Directed by Neeraj Kant, the play made an impact upon the audience because of its plot, design and experimentation with lighting.

The play 'Machis Ki Dibiya' appears like a typical romantic saga where boy meets girl and magic begins but it surely carried a much deeper thought in its core. The prowess of the writer could be gauged from the creative, smooth flowing narration where the love angle emerges naturally. In a few signature lines, the writer could make the whole state of mind of the characters visible to the audience. The narrative surely consists of dramatic lines which are rarely spoken in real life but because of the simplicity and metaphorical use, everything looked natural. The conversation between the protagonist and his friend deserves special mention for being hilarious yet simple. The story goes like, a young girl ‘lajjo’ goes to borrow a matchbox from neighbourhood, but the tenants were changed and she finds a young man ‘Vedi’ there, they had a crisp yet meaningful conversation and develop affection towards one another and the next meeting was also planned. But amidst the romance, the story also has an undercurrent of poverty and loneliness in the city that never sleeps.

Natrang actors who performed in the play included Shivam Singh, Manoj Kumar Lalotra, Sameena Kousar and Meenakshi Bhagat. The lights of the play were designed by Shivam Singh and executed by Neeraj Kant Sharma and the sound was rendered by Sushant Singh Charak. The presentations were done by Aarti Devi and the show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
